On September 26, 1998 one of the funniest Saturday Night Live skits ever made, “Oops I Crapped My Pants” mocked the infomercials for the emerging adult nappy industry in America.
I remember laughing at how absurd that niche was and how the writers of the mock ad were brilliant.
(Yeah, I just watched it again...and it’s still funny)
Fast forward to 2021…who is laughing now?
Adult diapers are a LEGIT and potentially very lucrative business IN CHINA…
…in the BILLIONS.
More lucrative than mom and baby.
Diaper manufacturers are starting to focus squarely on the biggest prize: an aging Chinese population.
And why wouldn’t they? Birth rates have collapsed.
In a few decades, China will have more elderly wearing diapers than the population of the European Union.
Perhaps I should take a Greater China license from SNL and start running those ads for real.
