Haggling at an open air market… expected.
When buying online from an official brand store, not so much.
These are the common views in the West, right? You expect to wheel and deal when shopping on the street, but most customers wouldn’t dream of it when shopping on Amazon, or ordering directly from their favorite brand’s online store.
Not only is it so far out of the norm that most customers wouldn’t even THINK to ask for a free gift or a lower price, but live customer service is extremely RARE in the West. There’s simply no mechanism for haggling when shopping online even if customers wanted.
However, things couldn’t be more different in China…
Haggling is EXPECTED (and facilitated by live customer service team.) Nearly 80% of shoppers ask for a discount or free gift when shopping on Tmall. And that’s REGARDLESS of basket size. Even small transactions are up for negotiation.
