Is China really moving towards digital yuan?

There’s no question that China is light-years ahead of the West when it comes to their ability and willingness to embrace new technology.
This has helped streamline everything from the ecommerce experience to economic stimulus programs.
BUT, it’s just gone a step further.
JD.com is now the FIRST online platform to accept digital yuan.
China’s first digital yuan online transaction was made by a post-90 Suzhou consumer on JD.com on December 11, just TWO seconds after Suzhou government kicked off the Double 12 shopping festival and issued RMB 20 million digital yuan in partnership with The People’s Bank of China.
It took the customer only half a second to complete the payment! HALF A SECOND!
What do you think?
Would you use digital currency? Can you see this catching on worldwide?
