A Taobao livestream hosted by KOL kiki(陈洁kiki) just made 13M RMB (U$2M) in 4 hours from the middle of nowhere. It's not a new record but it's definitely the start of something that will happen more in the future.
This particular stream took place in Dunhuang of Gansu province, which borders Xinjiang. It's part of a series of livestreams which will visit several rural cities in China showcasing local culture and products. While they didn't focus on any particular brand, they offered 44 products from all sorts of categories: food, arts & crafts, t-shirts, specialty foods, travel packages, etc.
There's a strong audience of people interested in travel & culture. Over 5 million viewers tuned in for the Dunhuang livestream.
This series is organized by Taobao Live and being done in Chinese rural cities, but it's shouting potential for what can be done by governments and trade organizations abroad.
